Robin George Andrews was, very briefly, a volcanologist, but after trying academia on for size, he realised it wasn’t quite what he imagined it to be. Now he’s a freelance science journalist who regularly reports on volcanoes, earthquakes, planetary science, space exploration and pretty much anything involving a rock doing something strange. His work has appeared in The New York Times, Scientific American, National Geographic, Gizmodo, The Atlantic, The Verge, Forbes, WIRED, Atlas Obscura, Quanta Magazine, and more. Although very keen to communicate the facts of the matter during a volcanic crisis, he also hopes above all else to use the incredible work of some of the most fascinating scientists around to tell enthralling stories that anyone can enjoy. In-between not getting anywhere near enough sleep and searching for said tales of geological wonder, he crops up on the TV, from Good Morning America to BBC News, and turns up at science gatherings, from Cheltenham Science Festival in the UK to Ratio in Bulgaria, almost certainly talking about volcanoes. He’s also writing a book, which – spoiler alert – has something to do with volcanoes too. You can keep up to date with his shenanigans at robingeorgeandrews.com or on Twitter, @SquigglyVolcano.
