IAVCEI-LOC-CaV-CONVIN Meeting for COV11

The status of the 11th Cities and Volcanoes (COV11) Conference, postponed to September 25-30, has been regularly evaluated over the past weeks according to the updated evolution of the Covid19 crisis.

On May 13 a new evaluation was made during a video-meeting connecting the IAVCEI President and Secretary General (Patrick Allard and Roberto Sulpizio), the President of the Local Organizing Committee (Paraskevi Nomikou), members of the IAVCEI Commission Cities and Volcanoes (Carolyn Driedger, Danielle Charlton, Leonard Graham and Natalie Deligne), and the CONVIN Professional Congress Organizer (Antonia Alexandrou, Epameinondas Gaveras, Georgia Menti, Georgia Kateriniou and Alkis Polyrakis).

At present we still keep on with holding the conference in Crete on September 25-30, 2020. But we are also working on alternative options if needed, since the health and wellbeing of COV11 participants is our highest priority. Final decisions will be taken by the end of June. In the meantime a survey will be sent to all delegates, authors and conveners in order to get a better view of their thoughts and plans. Filling this questionnaire will take them only a few minutes.

Be sure that we are carefully monitoring the evolution of the global situation to decide on the physical feasibility of COV11 in next September.

Stay safe, stay tuned and visit our website for more updates.

Stay Safe !!!

Best regards,

Paraskevi Nomikou | CoV11 President
