Suk Won Yi (KR) is professor and chair of musicology at Seoul National University, where he has been teaching musicology and music cognition since 1990. He received his PhD from UCLA in 1989 and has been active in the international community. He authored, co-authored, and edited dozens of books on various topics, many of which were awarded as the “Book of the Year” by the Ministry of Culture and the National Academy of Sciences in Korea. Yi served as the founding president of the Korean Society for Music Perception and Cognition (1998–2002), president of the Asia-Pacific Society for the Cognitive Sciences of Music (2003–5), and president of the Musicological Society of Korea (2005–8). In 2011, he founded the IMS Regional Association for East Asia; since 2012 he has been serving as a Directorium member of the IMS.
