When are proposals due?

How many proposals can I submit?
You may submit or appear on only one proposal for each of the three categories of presentation: free paper, roundtable, and study session. For roundtables and study sessions vetted by the Program Committee, this rule applies to all roles (co-authors, organizer, chair, respondent, participants). The meetings of the IMS Regional Associations, IMS Study Groups, and four R-projects (RIdIM, RILM, RIPM, RISM) do not count toward these numbers.
May I submit two free paper proposals if they are on entirely different subjects?
No, only one free paper proposal per person is allowed.
Are submissions read anonymously (i.e., with the names of participants hidden from the committee)?
The program committee reads all proposals anonymously.
What is the difference between a roundtable and a study session?
Roundtables are to focus exclusively on topics relevant to the congress theme “Music across Borders.” The length of each roundtable is 120 minutes, including Q&A and discussion. Study sessions may be on any subject and are more “informal” in nature, providing an opportunity for scholars to exchange ideas on the issues, methodologies, and research frameworks of a given topic while opening the discussion to all Congress participants. The length of each study session is limited to 90 minutes, including Q&A and discussion.
What is the usual format of a study session?
Study Sessions are generally comprised of three or four papers on a shared theme with time for discussion.
What is the usual format of a roundtable?
Roundtables generally consist of brief presentations by panelists (and sometimes a respondent) with time for discussion.
I would like to propose a musical performance. Is this possible?
The Program Committee only accepts proposals for free papers, roundtables, and study sessions. Concerts are being programmed by the Local Organization Committee. Additional musical performances need to be self-organized and self-financed.
I am organizing a session for an IMS Regional Association, IMS Study Group, or R-project. How will that be scheduled?
Each IMS Regional Association, IMS Study Group, and R-project is allocated time for a three-hour session at the congress and may structure it to suit their needs. It can consist of a roundtable, study session, and/or a (closed) meeting. Roundtables do not need to relate to the congress theme or be reviewed by the Program Committee. Indeed, the Program Committee strongly encourages these organizations to privilege their individual missions and fields of study when programming their sessions. There is no submission form, but these sessions do need to be scheduled and any programming communicated. The IMS Bureau will write to the organizers of the IMS Regional Associations, IMS Study Groups, and R-projects in due time to collect requests for meeting times at the congress.
I am the chair, liaison officer, or a steering committee member of an IMS Regional Association, IMS Study Group, or R-project and am submitting a proposal for our organization. Do those proposals count against the limits on my individual participation?
No. Organizers of a roundtable or study session who are submitting proposals for their organization and are not scheduled to speak in the session being proposed are free to appear on a different roundtable or study session.
REGISTRATION FAQs
I am presenting at the congress. Do I need to register for all five days?
Yes. There is no single-day registration category.
I am participating in a meeting of an IMS Regional Association, IMS Study Group, or R-project. Do I need to register for the congress?
All participants are required to register for the congress, even if there are not presenting.
