A music director and musicologist, Pedro Memelsdorff has long been a member of Jordi Savall’s Hesperion XXI and of the duo with Andreas Staier. In 1987 he founded the ensemble Mala Punica, specialized in late medieval polyphony. A former fellow of Villa I Tatti-Harvard in Florence, an Ernest-Bloch lecturer at Berkeley, and a Blodgett Distinguished Artist at Harvard, he is now an Affiliate Researcher at the University of Tours, and a member of the college of the Swiss Confederal Graduate School in Italian Civilization. A guest lecturer inter alia at the University of Oxford and the Scuola Normale di Pisa, he co-directs the Master programmes at the ESMUC in Barcelona, the Early Music Seminars at the Fondazione Cini in Venice, and the concert series of Villa I Tatti in Florence. Memelsdorff has also served as the Director of the Schola Cantorum in Basel.
