Costas Tsougras (musicologist-composer, b. 1966) is associate professor of systematic musicology and music analysis at the School of Music of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. His PhD research involved the adaptation of the Generative Theory of Tonal Music for the analysis of Y. Constantinidis ‘44 Greek Miniatures’ (University Studio Press, 2003). He has published theoretical and analytical work in books and collective volumes (Routledge, Springer, Bärenreiter, Grove Music Online), international/Greek journals (Journal of New Music Research, Musicae Scientiae, Music Perception, Journal of Interdisciplinary Music Studies, Polyphonia, Musicologia, et al.) and conference proceedings about cognitive and computational models, and the analysis of Greek/European classical/contemporary music, and has chaired or co-chaired international conferences (ICMPC/ESCOM 2012, AAWM/SMA 2018, et al). His compositions have been performed and recorded by acclaimed musicians and ensembles. In 2012 and 2019 his music represented the Greek Composers’ Union at the ISCM World Music Days in Belgium and Estonia.
