Claire Horwell

Claire Horwell is a Professor of Geohealth at Durham University, UK in the Department of Earth Sciences and Institute of Hazard, Risk & Resilience. Her research focuses on the geochemistry, health hazards and societal impacts of air pollution, particularly related to volcanic emissions but also from vegetation combustion and urban exposures. She is a member of the UK government’s Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies and advises governments around the world, and the World Health Organization, during volcanic emergencies. She is the founder and Director of the International Volcanic Health Hazard Network (www.ivhhn.org), an IAVCEI Commission. Claire is currently the President of the American Geophysical Union’s GeoHealth Section, for which she is a founding leader.
