Mariton is a geologist with 25 years of service in the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS). She finished undergraduate studies at the University of the Philippines and is currently finishing a doctorate degree with the Université Libre de Bruxelles focused on the eruptive history of Taal Main Crater. She has many years of experience in applied volcanology particularly in volcanic hazards and impact assessment and eruption monitoring on the six most active Philippine volcanoes. Her current responsibility as Chief of DOST-PHIVOLCS’ Volcano Monitoring and Eruption Prediction Division led to the strategic development of multi-parameter monitoring systems on ten active volcanoes and mitigation of two recent eruptions at Mayon and Taal.
