Αγαπητές και αγαπητοί Συνάδελφοι,

Με ιδιαίτερη χαρά σας καλωσορίζουμε στην επιστημονική εκδήλωση: «Επίκαιρα Θέματα Φλεγμονής και Θρόμβωσης» στην Αλεξανδρούπολη, στο ξενοδοχείο Grecotel Egnatia, στις 22 και 23 Σεπτεμβρίου 2023.

Η εκδήλωση συνδιοργανώνεται από την A’ Πανεπιστημιακή Παθολογική Κλινική ΔΠΘ, το Εργαστήριο Μοριακής Αιματολογίας του ΔΠΘ, και την Εταιρεία Μεταφραστικής Ανοσολογίας και Αυτοφλεγμονωδών Νοσημάτων (ΕΜΕΑ). Τελεί υπό την αιγίδα τoυ Ιατρικού Τμήματος του Δημοκριτείου Πανεπιστημίου Θράκης.

Τα φλεγμονώδη και θρομβωτικά νοσήματα, η αέναη αλληλεπίδραση φλεγμονής & θρόμβωσης, συνιστούν καθημερινό αντικείμενο κλινικού προβληματισμού αποτελώντας σήμερα σημαντικό πεδίο μεταφραστικής έρευνας, εφαρμογής νέων θεραπειών και τεχνολογιών αιχμής. Η πανδημία της COVID-19 έχει αναδείξει την ανοσοθρόμβωση ως βασικό μηχανισμό για την παθολογία της νόσου, επιβεβαιώνοντας παράλληλα τον σημαντικό της ρόλο και σε άλλες παθολογικές καταστάσεις.

Η εκδήλωση στοχεύει στην παρουσίαση νεότερων εξελίξεων και σύγχρονων προσεγγίσεων στο πεδίο αυτό, και συγχρόνως θα τιμήσει την προσφορά του ακαδημαϊκού δασκάλου και ερευνητή της ομογένειας, Καθηγητή του Πανεπιστημίου της Πενσυλβάνια, Ιωάννη Λάμπρη. Η αναγόρευση του σε Επίτιμο Καθηγητή του Δημοκριτείου Πανεπιστημίου Θράκης θα αποτελέσει ιδιαίτερα τιμητικό γεγονός για την ακαδημαϊκή μας κοινότητα. Με την πολύχρονη, διεθνώς αναγνωρισμένη, έρευνά του στο πεδίο της φυσικής ανοσίας και ειδικότερα του συστήματος του συμπληρώματος, συνέβαλε καθοριστικά στην μελέτη και θεραπεία της ανοσοθρόμβωσης παγκοσμίως.

Ελπίζουμε με τη θεματολογία και τη δομή του επιστημονικού προγράμματος, να ανταποκριθούμε στις προσδοκίες και την εμπιστοσύνη σας για μία ενδιαφέρουσα επιστημονική συνάντηση που θα αποτελέσει ευκαιρία για γόνιμες συζητήσεις και θα πυροδοτήσει νέες ερευνητικές αναζητήσεις και συνεργασίες μεταξύ ερευνητών, κλινικών ιατρών και νέων επιστημόνων.

It will be a great pleasure to welcome you to the scientific meeting “Current Topics in Inflammation and Thrombosis” which will take place in Alexandroupolis on 22^nd and 23^rd September 2023 at the hotel “Grecotel Egnatia”.
The meeting is jointly organized by the First Department of Internal Medicine of Democritus University of Thrace (DUTH), the Laboratory of Molecular Hematology of DUTH, and the Greek Society for Translational Immunology & Autoinflammatory Diseases. The meeting will take place under the auspices of the Department of Medicine of DUTH.

The inflammatory and thrombotic diseases, the constant interplay between inflammation and thrombosis, constitute a common problem in daily clinical practice and form nowadays a prominent field of translational research, application of novel therapies and cutting-edge technologies. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of immunothrombosis as a key mechanism for the pathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2 infection, while further affirming its pivotal role in various other immune-mediated diseases.

The aim of the event is to present advances and current approaches in the field. At the same time, we are delighted to honor the contribution of the academic tutor and researcher, distinguished member of Greek diaspora, John D. Lambris, Professor of University of Pennsylvania, USA. His proclamation as Honorary Professor of the Democritus University of Thrace will constitute an exceptional honor for our academic community. Through his long standing internationally acclaimed research in the field of innate immunity and particularly of the complement system, he has decisively contributed to the study and treatment of immunothrombosis on a worldwide scale. 

We hope that the topics and the content of the scientific program will meet your expectations for a constructive meeting and will provide the opportunity for fertile discussions instigating novel investigational initiatives and cooperations between researchers, physicians and young scientists.
