Carlo Salvarani, M.D. is recognized internationally for his expertise in the field of vasculitis. He is the Director of the Rheumatology Division in Reggio Emilia and Professor of Rheumatology at the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Italy.
Dr. Salvarani received his M.D. degree at the University of Parma, Italy. He completed internal medicine training at the University of Parma, and Rheumatology specialization at the University of Ferrara. Dr. Salvarani now leads a vasculitis care and research team investigating the pathogenesis, epidemiology, treatment and outcomes of various forms of vasculitis, particularly giant cell arteritis, periaortitis, Behçet's disease and CNS vasculitis. He also has clinical and research interests in polymyalgia rheumatics and the spondyloarthropathies. Dr. Salvarani is a member of the European Vasculitis Society (EUVAS), the American College of Rheumatology and several other national and international rheumatology specialty groups.
